Lets start with Friday

And so it begins … it was the first of Feb 2008 a Friday like no other. It was my last day in a job I’d both loved and hated – a very short career stint lasting only six months. Rewind back to July 2007, my fixed term contract had ended and I was getting married in only three months time with a panic over money I needed a quick fix, this was not a great time to be unemployed! I had a call from an agency I’d never heard of before, met with a funny little man in Starbucks on Oxford street, was sent to an interview in a firm in Bromley which was a short bus ride away from my home.

At the interview all went well, they seemed keen on my background in on-line marketing and hey presto I was offered a job – that meant wedding money, that meant a commute of only 20 mins on the bus (rather than an hour under someones arm pit on a usually delayed commuter train to London) Travelling costs of a tenner a week (Rather than forty quid a week) and the possibility of making some local friends – what a great quick fix!

There are people there I am going to miss, I made some great friends however the job itself was a dull as dull can be and without any perks – not even a pension or a Christmas bonus… On my last day I realised just how much an impression I had made, I got presents from some of the girls who I’m really going to miss, I got flowers and one of the most embarrassing things ever to happen happened, I’d popped up to HR to hand in my security pass and collect my p45 and when I went to return to my desk, the whole office had assembled – 70 people from several floors all staring at me to see me off!

I have a week of freedom before I start my new job – back in London so back to paying extortionate fees to travel under someones armpit on a delayed train for an hour – thank God for my ipod…
